Artistic wrought iron suppliers
Our small company located in Sardinia lives steeped in local traditions even in its working methods.
We work in forged iron hand-crafted using techniques dating back to medieval times, constantly renewing and blending ancient techniques with contemporary lines which is very popular here on the Emerald Coast.
Thanks to my father Pietro Sio who taught me the craft with his imagination and feeling which is transmitted into his creations. Over the years we have succeeded in collaborating to make many customers happy, even the most demanding.
Unfortunately, the customer very often confuses real wrought iron work with the usual same identical grates sold all over the world, assuming this to be the full extent of the blacksmith’s work. Alas, this is not the case because blacksmiths who work by hand and give shape to hot metal are few and far between.
Most of what you see around you is no longer really hand-crafted but assembled industrially pre-fabricated pieces sold as wrought iron and moreover, often expensively. By doing so the multinational iron companies have put the true craftsmen of iron out of business in favor of large companies doing assembly work.
By sheer luck having had the pleasure of working with many architects for years, we have been able to make the craziest shapes for fixtures for furnishings, wrought iron railings and artistic grates, whilst remaining tasteful and maintaining the strength of forms necessary to be stylish and classy even in the simplest detail.
Well, first of all ask your blacksmith to show you the forge where he works.
If there is no forge, he is not a blacksmith but a metal assembler, this is pretty obvious.
However it would be enough to look at the details of the work to distinguish a handmade wrought iron bed from a piece made a Chinese multinational company.
No two pieces produced manually by a craftsman will ever be identical.
The shape of the hammer marks cannot be identical in thousands of pieces, and my friends, if they are they are made by mass produced moulds.
Each craftsman’s handiwork is his signature , often the same blacksmith has trouble producing identical pieces hammered in the same way because of all the variables slightly different inclination and strength; the physical fatigue of the day; the temperatures during beating and a series of of other factors that are difficult to comprehend.
As a result the passion of the craftsman comes through in each piece of work. I wish to convey the pleasure of manual work to young people and to my children, and whoever wants to learn.
By re-evaluating these arts and crafts such that the style of the work can still be distinguished by the excellence of ‘Made in Italy’, the creativity that all the world admires.
